Jayanta Kumar Sarma
Jayanta Kr Sarma is associated with Aaraynak as a consultant of Natural Resource Management and Livelihood since 2015 looking after Livelihood component of MTCP project of Manas NP and CBNRM project of Kohora River Basin.
Sarma has Post –Master in Natural Resource Management with a specialization in ‘Livelihood and Governance’ and Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System (RS-GIS) and Post-Graduation from Gauhati University in Geography with specialization in Regional Planning. He had professional training in Entrepreneurial Education, Disaster Management, Open Source GIS, Urban Economic studies, Development Ecology from Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati, IIT-Guwahati, Disaster Management Center, Tezpur University, IIT-Madras, Center for Urban Economic Studies, Calcutta University, ASTEC, Guwahati.
Natural Resource Management, Traditional Knowledge System, Livelihood and Micro-Entrepreneurship development planning, Eco-cultural Tourism are the major area of research and working in the area for more than 30 years. He has carried out research study for International Center for Community Forestry (ICCF), IIFM, Bhopal, India, National Council for Science and Technology Communication, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, Assam Science Technology and Environment Council, Foundation for Social Transformation-North-East, AFRO-Guwahati Task Force, Project Engineer, Guwahati, ISCD- Guwahati. He has also been associated with State Council of Science and Technology of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and the Meghalaya state of India as a consultant. He has also involved in documentary filming as a researcher, theme writer, scriptwriter and associate director.
He has credits of publication of 15 research paper, 4 book chapter, developing and editing of user manual on watershed management under Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) for Soil Conservation Department, activity manual on Geospatial analysis for NCSTC, DST, GoI; activity manual on Water Resources, Land and Soil, Biodiversity, Traditional Knowledge System, Settlement Study for Vigyan Prasar, DST, GoI and designing mobile exhibition program and communication material on Renewable Energy for AEDA, Guwahati. Presently editing a handbook on “Science Technology for Women Entrepreneurship in North East India” in six different languages (English, Assamese, Bodo, Karbi, Galo and Pali) a project of Vigyan Prasar, DST, GoI in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh State Science Technology Council. His issue base write-up on Tradition, culture, Environment and Development are published in NEZINE magazine (https://www.nezine.com/category/Society) and EcoNE (https://www.econe.in/). Two documentary films where he worked were screened in Mumbai International Film Festival 2020 – ‘Idiom of Rug’ ( on traditional wool production and product of Arunachal Pradesh- produced by Film Division of India), Manas and People ( way of life of the people in the fringe villages of Manas National Park –produced by Aaranyak).
He had the experience of teaching in UG and PG level for 17 years and 2 years respectively. Associated as Case study coordinator of Environmental Management Paper of Civil Engineering and Environment Management Department of North Dakota State University, USA in 2012 and 2015, Guest faculty of NIT, Arunachal Pradesh for M.Tech. Program of Rural Technology in 2015.
He is also a member of the National Academic Committee of National Children’s Science Congress, NCSTC, DST, GoI; member of the research council of Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture (VKIC), Guwahati, Assam.
